I guess it’s not a mystery for any Ashford Wheel owner that the cotton drive band is not a very smart choice to keep the wheel tension constant, but is perfect to enhance a spinner’s own.
That’s why just a few days after receiving my little wonderful Ashford Traveller, I decided to purchase a turbo kit. I couldn’t imagine myself changing the drive band every time I would want to switch to the jumbo flyer – or adjusting the knot at any loss of tension that a massive use of the wheel would produce.
I had been looking for something similar in many shops, but with no result.
Tired and annoyed, I was about to order the turbo kit when I found a PVC chord in a jewelry supplies shop.

The shop owner explained me that this type of chord is normally used to create collars with big and sturdy stones.
The price? 2€ for 10 metres.
Would it work? I didn’t think twice and bought it.
Guess what? Yeah, it works!!! And with both the standard and the jumbo flyer.

Spinning with this new drive band is very smooth and adjusting tension is very easy.
